CareBrief Support & FAQ
// frequently asked
Who is CareBrief for?
Adult children caring for an aging parent who's navigating multiple specialists, medications, and after-visit summaries that nobody explained in plain English. It works for any single care recipient — a spouse, a sibling, yourself — but the design decisions favour the adult-child caregiver.
How is my parent's data kept private?
Everything you log lives on your iPhone in CareBrief's app sandbox, encrypted at rest by iOS. There is no server, no account, no login. Nothing about your parent — name, conditions, vitals, photos, voice transcripts, appointment notes — is ever transmitted to us. Read the privacy policy for the full picture.
What does the after-visit translator actually do?
Paste or scan the after-visit summary your parent's doctor printed. CareBrief uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models to rewrite the medical language at about an 8th-grade reading level and suggests up to three follow-up questions you can save for the next appointment. The text never leaves your iPhone unless your device has Apple Intelligence's Private Cloud Compute enabled and the model elects to use it — in which case Apple's privacy guarantees apply.
Which iPhones can use the after-visit translator?
The translator requires iOS 26 on an Apple-Intelligence-capable iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16/17 models. On other iPhones the feature is hidden — the rest of CareBrief works as normal.
How does the free tier work?
Free gets you the full core experience for one care recipient: unlimited logging of vitals and medications, the care team roster, the document vault, appointment prep, and the PDF brief generator. The limits are 10 event logs per calendar month, 1 PDF brief per month, and 1 after-visit translation per month. Premium removes all three caps.
What does Premium unlock?
Unlimited event logs, unlimited PDF briefs, unlimited translations, voice logging with on-device speech recognition, photo attachments on events, read-only HealthKit vitals import, the caregiver journal (a private space for hard days), and alternate app icons. Annual is $39.99 with a 7-day free trial; monthly is $4.99 with no trial.
Can I share with my siblings or spouse?
Not in v1.0 — by design. Most primary caregivers told us that "family sharing" added stress rather than relieving it (absent-sibling commentary on every entry). CareBrief is deliberately single-player. If enough users tell us a read-only sibling view would actually help, we'll add it as opt-in.
How do I cancel a subscription?
On your iPhone: Settings → Apple ID (your name at the top) → Subscriptions → CareBrief. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep Premium until then. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open Settings → Premium → "Restore purchase" at the bottom. Your previous entitlement reactivates as long as you're signed in to the same Apple ID. No account needed.
How do I export or delete my data?
Export: Settings → Data → "Export all data as JSON" produces a file you can save or share. Delete: Settings → Data → "Delete all data" wipes every record (you'll be asked to type the care recipient's name to confirm). Uninstalling the app also removes the data.
Does CareBrief work with my hospital's portal (MyChart, etc.)?
CareBrief doesn't integrate with patient portals directly — those require accounts, licensing, and per-hospital integration. The intended workflow is downstream: take what the portal or printed summary gave you, paste it into the translator, and CareBrief turns it into something you and your parent can actually talk about.
Why no iPad, Apple Watch, or Android?
iPad is on the roadmap. Apple Watch is being scoped — a glanceable "next appointment in 2 hours" complication is the likely v1 surface. Android is not planned; the on-device AI translator depends on Apple's Foundation Models, which don't exist on Android.
// reporting a bug
If something's broken, send a quick email — the more detail, the faster the fix:
- What you tried to do, and what happened instead
- Your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About)
- CareBrief version (Settings → About)
- A screenshot or short screen recording, if you can share one comfortably (please redact your parent's name and any other personal details first — we don't need them to fix the bug)
